Dr. Shireen Bashiri, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT
The vigorous sport of gymnastics lead me to the wonderful profession that physical therapy is. I was a former competitive gymnast for roughly 8 years and encountered a fair share of injuries that not only frustrated, but fascinated me. I wanted to know how to not only fix myself, but others, and I wanted to do this the right way and as quickly as possible. I did my undergraduate coursework in the Rio Grande Valley, and obtained my doctorate in physical therapy at UT Health San Antonio. With my strong desire to learn and be better, the knowledge acquisition did not stop there. I am a fellow in orthopedic manual physical therapy with the Institute for Athlete Regeneration, which has enhanced my proficiency in administering exercise prescriptions/progressions and identification of joint and soft tissue restrictions; such knowledge is essential for positive outcomes. Life is dynamic; human movement is dynamic, and we tend to take movement for granted at times. With the knowledge obtained in PT school and fellowship training, I take pride in not only the “what” such as getting someone from point A to point B, but the “how” through a heightened level of movement cognizance; this is the key ingredient for facilitating optimal and pain-free movement.
